Logs and msl doctor
Where MSL writes what it's doing, and the command that checks your installation.
Logs#
MSL's logs are in ~/Library/Logs/MSL. Open Logs on the Tools tab opens the folder.
- mslhd.log — the background service: every start, stop, power event and error, with the details behind the short messages in the app.
- Mac apps started from the Dock or Spotlight write their problems here too, since they have no terminal.
msl doctor#
In Terminal:
msl doctorIt checks for things no other command shows, and lists each with ✓, a warning or a problem:
- Whether MSL's command-line tools are installed.
- Whether the background service is reachable.
- Every instance, and whether its distro is downloaded.
- Leftover files from removed instances, and cached app lists for them.
- Mac apps still pointing at removed instances.
- How much space the disk images take in total.
It only reports. If it finds leftovers, it lists them and tells you to run:
msl doctor --fixwhich deletes exactly what it listed — nothing else.
